European stock markets started the year on a largely positive note, taking advantage of further monetary easing in China with the eighth decline in two years in the banks’ reserve requirement ratio. Donald Trump also said that the Phase 1 trade agreement between China and the United States would be signed in Washington on January 15 and that he would then travel to Beijing to continue negotiations.
